In the first article of this series, we took you to the heart of coat creation, from the initial sketch to prototype validation. But once this work is completed, a new, equally essential stage begins: manufacturing.
This is where every choice makes perfect sense. The quality of a coat does not depend solely on its material or cut. It also relies on the precision of its assembly, the quality of its finishes, and the attention paid to the smallest details.
At Trench & Coat by Lener, these steps are the natural extension of the work carried out by our design office and our development workshop. Because a coat is a piece you want to wear for many seasons, nothing is left to chance.
From Prototype to Production: Passing on Expertise
Once the prototype is definitively validated in our workshop in Northern France, all technical information is transmitted to our own production workshops in Ukraine.
This direct link between the development teams and the manufacturing workshops helps preserve the original intent imagined from the first sketches. Volumes, proportions, and technical details are precisely reproduced so that each model remains true to the initial design.
This continuity is one of the strengths of a workshop brand: development and manufacturing constantly communicate to ensure a coherent result.
Fine Material Deserves Superior Craftsmanship
Choosing a beautiful Italian wool or quality water-repellent gabardine is a first step. But the craftsmanship must live up to this expectation.
Each assembly contributes to the garment's drape. A regular seam, a properly mounted facing, or a perfectly positioned collar directly influence how a coat falls on the silhouette.
These elements often remain invisible once the garment is worn. Yet, they are what allow it to maintain its structure season after season.
The Finishes: Details That Make All the Difference
When observing a quality coat, it is often the finishes that reveal the level of precision put into its making.
At Trench & Coat by Lener, we pay particular attention to every detail.
Linings are chosen to naturally follow movements and improve wearing comfort. Moreover, for several seasons now, we have favored double cotton linings for pockets to reinforce them and polyester/viscose linings in the sleeves for easy slipping on.
Bias binding protects certain interior seams while providing a neat finish. Topstitching, finally, is not only decorative: it also contributes to the strength of areas subject to daily stress.
These finishes require time, precision, and genuine expertise. Yet, they are often the ones least noticed… until they are missing.
Why the Inside of a Coat Is as Important as the Outside
A coat can be appealing at first glance due to its cut or material. But it's often by looking at its interior that one discovers the quality of its manufacturing.
A well-mounted lining facilitates wear and naturally follows movements. Clean seams testify to meticulous assembly. A well-placed binding protects sensitive areas and contributes to the garment's durability.
These are all details that don't seek to be seen, but which make all the difference after several years of use.

Quality Control: The Last Step Before Joining Your Wardrobe
Before being included in our collections, each model undergoes careful checks by our teams in France.
Our stylist, Laetitia, and our pattern maker-grader, Sandrine, particularly verify the conformity of the finishes, the regularity of the seams, the positioning of the accessories, and the overall quality of the assembly.
The goal is not only to ensure that the coat complies with the developed model, but also that it meets the level of excellence we have imposed on ourselves for over fifty years.
Creating Coats That Endure Through Seasons
At Trench & Coat by Lener, we believe that a coat is an investment over time. This requirement guides each of our creations, from material selection to the finishes you find in our women's coat collection, designed to last through the seasons.
That's why we prioritize carefully selected materials, mastered design, and durable finishes rather than production dictated solely by speed.
This approach is at the heart of our work as a workshop brand specializing in coats. It allows us to offer pieces designed to accompany women year after year, without ever compromising on elegance or comfort.
The quality of a coat is never just about its appearance. It is built at every stage: in the choice of materials, in the precision of the pattern making, in the care taken in the assemblies, and even in the most discreet finishes.
It is this requirement, transmitted from the design office to the manufacturing workshops, that gives birth to coats designed to last.
